Portfolio Edition: Concordance (2005 – 2025), 2026 by Susan Morris

Produced by Book Works, London, and designed by Christopher Lawson Ltd, the Portfolio/Folio Edition presents Susan Morris’s Concordance (2005–2025), 2026, recently featured in Living by the Rule: Contemporary Meets Medieval, at the Sainsbury Centre, UEA, Norwich. Developed at five-year intervals over a period of twenty years and extracted from selected issues of The Guardian newspapers published on the supposedly ‘happiest’ and ‘unhappiest’ days of the year, the work rearranges fragments of journalistic language into alphabetised sequences. Repeated expressions, unexpected associations and typographical rhythms bring the habits of everyday speech into view, moving between conceptual art, poetry and pictorial abstraction.
