Sarah Chilvers
_ —Gallery Solo - Exhibition
7 Ledbury Mews North, London W11 2AF
Sarah Chilvers was a solo exhibition at Bartha Contemporary, 7 Ledbury Mews North, Notting Hill, London, from 16 March to 1 April 2023. It brought together new works and works from the artist's archive, showing her continued interest in abstraction and colour theory, and Chilvers developed the installation on site, trying out different ways of presenting the works. New works included Untitled (SC_23-1), Untitled (SC_23-2) and Untitled (SC_23-3), all from 2023, in gouache, watercolour and pencil on found paper.
Chilvers was born in Southend-on-Sea in 1970 and lives and works in Wales. She studied at the Ruskin School of Fine Art and Drawing and the Royal College of Art. She is known for systematic drawings built from radiating lines and blocks of colour that spread out from a central point, often in circular form and at different scales. Her sculptures carry the same investigation into three dimensions and use found materials, which set a note of play against the precision of the compositions. She also works in video, photography and temporary installation.
She had shown at the gallery before in two-person exhibitions with Henrik Eiben in 2008 and with Giulia Ricci in 2016.
