Beat Zoderer _ A Film
Between Calculus and Random
Between Calculus and Random (Zwischen Kalkül und Zufall) is a 90-minute film by Jürg Egli, a Swiss production from 2017. Egli brought the artist Beat Zoderer and the musician Nik Bärtsch together for a studio session, and the film records the performance that came out of it. It has no dialogue and is subtitled in French and English. Samuel Weniger edited the film, which won the Best Essay award at the Festival International du Film sur l'Art in Montreal in 2018. The trailer on this page was published on Vimeo in October 2018, and the full film can be streamed on Filmingo. Zoderer was born in Zurich in 1955 and lives and works in Wettingen, Switzerland. He builds his work from everyday materials bought in hardware stores, arranged in structures that look systematic but leave room for chance.
