Adam Barker-Mill _ Retrospective
Retrospective, Kunstmuseum Ahlen, 2019
This film by Adam Barker-Mill records his retrospective at the Kunstmuseum Ahlen, which opened in November 2019 and was organised by the museum with Bartha Contemporary. The exhibition brought together work from the previous thirty years and was the British artist's first major show in Germany. The announcement listed recent pieces, many shown for the first time, among them new Bucket Lamps, and a new permanent public installation at the front of the museum, to become part of Hellweg ein Lichtweg, the region's programme of light sculptures. The 25-minute film was published in April 2020. Barker-Mill was born in Wookey Hole, Somerset, in 1940 and lives and works in London. His sculptures and installations work with light, an interest that began with the caves of his childhood home. From 1964 to 1984 he regularly worked with the filmmaker James Scott, often as lighting cameraman.
