RETURN TO FRANK GERRITZ MAIN PAGE
PRESS RELEASE
Gallery N. von Bartha is proud to announce the forthcoming solo exhibition by German Sculptor Frank Gerritz to be held at gallery’s Notting Hill Space from April 3RD until May 22ND 2004. The opening reception will take place on Friday April 2nd from Six to Nine PM. The artist will be present.
An installation of two solid iron sculptures, Blockformation II and III will form the artist’s first UK solo exhibition. The two works will be shown alongside accompanying surfaceprints of both sculptures as well as drawings of Blockformation II.
Drawings of Blockformation III, as well as the first Edition (1 or 3) of the sculpture, were last exhibited as part of a mayor group exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York in 1993, in an exhibition entitled Sculptor’s Drawings of the 20th Century. The installation is part of the Museums collection.
Frank Gerritz is probably best know for his series of graphite drawings on MDF as well as his more recent body of work of drawings made using oil-stick on Aluminium. Although generally referred to as drawings these works capture a sculptural element, which links them to the artist’s earlier works, to be shown here.
Gerritz has been recognised as one of the leading contemporary non-figurative artist’s from Germany. His works have mainly been exhibited in the United States as well as Germany and Switzerland. Forthcoming Museum exhibitions containing works by the artist include two Group exhibitions taken from the German Lafrenz Collection. They will take place at the Neues Museum Weserburg, in Bremen from early May and from May 16th at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, Galerie der Gegenwart in Hamburg.
